Tuff Shed is no stranger to sustainability.
We celebrate Earth Day year-round and pride ourselves on our sustainability practices, from using eco-friendly materials to limiting waste in our factories to rolling on paint–we’re green through and through.
But that’s not all. When you buy a Tuff Shed, you buy it for life. Now that’s sustainable.
Eco-Friendly Materials and Partners
Tuff Shed sources high-quality, sustainable materials. We also partner with suppliers that encourage environmentally friendly practices. Glidden Professional Exterior Paint meets the Master Paint Institute Green Performance Standard, and has a low or even no VOC. Our siding supplier, Louisiana Pacific, is dedicated to sustainable forestry and manufacturing. They harvest material from aspen trees, which are a renewable resource. Plus, seven of their products, including LP® SmartSide®, (the siding we use) are National Green Building Standard® certified.
Limit Waste in Factories
Tuff Shed prioritizes efficiency and limits waste in our factories. Excess drop or scrap material is often reused for everything from shelving to door trim upgrades (like the Lower X or Diamond). We have standardized wall heights and trusses, and some of our local factories also have computerized Hornet saws, which help reduce drop waste by 60%.
Prefabricated Building Process
Even our building process is sustainable. By prefabricating components in our local factories, builders make fewer trips back and forth, therefore reducing our carbon footprint. This process also increases efficiency and allows for quicker assembly on site. Not to mention we don’t have to ship a fully built structure all the way across the country because we have 59 local Tuff Shed factories across the lower 48 states.
We Roll, Not Spray
Wait, there’s more? You bet. At Tuff Shed, we roll our paint rather than spray it, and that’s another example of how we think sustainably. Spraying paint releases particle emissions and volatile organic compounds into the air; our method avoids that. Plus, we even bag and reuse our rollers, eliminating water waste.
Solar-Powered Lights
When we think about expanding our product options for our customers, we take sustainability into consideration. Our newest (and brightest) upgrade, solar powered lights, is an earth-friendly way to add light to your backyard building.
What Really Makes Tuff Shed Sustainable?
Our buildings are engineered to be Tuff, with 16-on-center framing and TPI-Certified trusses, just like a house. What really makes us environmentally-friendly is that our backyard buildings are designed to last for decades. Years of reliable, worry-free use means not having to prematurely replace your building – that’s a win for the planet and our customers.
Go Green with Tuff Shed
If you can’t tell, we think sustainability rocks. We’re doing our part to minimize our impact on the environment, one shed at a time. Want to start designing your own backyard building? Check out our online configurator today.
