Lorna’s Backyard Office

Between finding the room for an office to separating home and work life, working from home can be tough. Our customer, Lorna P. had a guest room home office that was turning out to be more work than it was worth. She decided that a new backyard shed that could work as both a dedicated workspace and a backyard entertaining hub would be the perfect solution.

With a cement pad already in place, Lorna had a great starting point for her new backyard office. “Living in California, we spend so much time outdoors but we never truly had a space that felt comfortable for entertaining,” says Lorna. While researching home office solutions, she found Tuff Shed and stopped by our Canoga Park office to see what our buildings were all about. “While were walking around the displays, my mind started racing with everything we could do. Everyone was so helpful, answering questions and helping to find the perfect building.”

Lorna’s new 10×12 Premier PRO Tall Ranch is a great addition. With double doors opening wide onto a custom 12×12 deck, the shed makes an ideal multi-use space. “It matches up perfectly with our home, down to the paint color and windows. We’re so happy with it.”

The new shed is decked out for both office hours and backyard parties. Complete with climate control, WIFI, a mini fridge, and cozy décor, it’s a picture-perfect backyard addition. To celebrate the new space, Lorna hosted a She Shed party, complete with custom cookies. “Everyone went nuts for the shed and had so much fun with it. My friends are all planning their own fun sheds for their backyards.”

If you’d like to design a backyard office and entertaining space like Laura’s, start with a 10×12 Premier PRO Tall Ranch and add the following upgrades and options. Your local Tuff Shed team will be happy to help with a plan for a deck or you could add a sidewall porch option for more outdoor living space.

  1. How much for this finished shed without the deck. Same design as this one.

Do I need a permit in Torrance CA.?
    Electricity and water?
Can this be moved if we move?

    Thank you,

    1. Those are all great questions, Claire. Your local team will be happy to help a quote and any permitting needs in your area. The building can certainly be fitted for electric and plumbing, but that is something that would need to be handled by an additional contractor as our team only specializing in the shell of the building. Due to the way our buildings are constructed, we don’t typically recommend moving the building after it is installed onsite. We do recommend reaching out to your local Tuff Shed team as they’ll be able to help design the building you have in mind and answer any other questions you have.
